Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety

Persistent anxiety can interfere with your life. Having occasional anxiety is part of life. It is generally caused by some type of stress. For a member of the LGBT+ community, it may be caused by not feeling accepted for who you are, or even worse, feelings of a lack of safety in some or all spheres of life.  If you are somewhere on the neurodivergent spectrum, anxiety can be exacerbated by confusion at reading social cues, over stimulation, and sensory integration issues.

Some anxiety is normal; however, it can be problematic when it becomes persistent and overwhelming. When anxiety begins to impact your life in negative ways, it is time to seek professional help.

Therapy provides an avenue for overcoming anxiety. Through therapy, you learn ways to reduce anxiety and gain control over unhealthy thoughts, as well as develop coping strategies for more effective sensory integration.

Meditation and mindfulness skills help you during those times when you are feeling anxious.

Sometimes anxiety can be caused by traumatic events that cause emotional wounds. Therapy helps you explore those events and heal from the stress that causes you to be anxious.

It is about setting smart goals for living in your truth and actualizing the life you want. It is about growing into the person you have always wanted to be.

Depression

Depression impacts your entire life. You may have lost interest in activities that were once exciting. Guilt and a sense of worthlessness may cause you to be tired and unable to perform as your usual self in certain settings. You are plagued by questions that seek answers. “Why does this hurt so much?” keeps popping into your head. You might hear the monster in your head say, “Why are you still here?” Those thoughts and feelings are draining you mentally and physically.

Overcoming depression is best done with professional help. Answers for your depression can be found. While positive self-talk is a key component, it’s not the only solution, and if it was that easy, we would all be living healthy happy lives.

We’ll delve into the “tri-unity” (Mind, Body, and Spirit), including issues related to self esteem, self-worth, and environmental factors contributing to your depression. We will analyze behaviors, personal identity,  establish both future and short-term goals, and address trauma and relationship patterns. Harmful behaviors will be reduced and replaced with healthy ones, and the emotional baggage contributing to your feeling of sadness will be addressed.

It’s about building on current strengths to help you become your most authentic self. The goal is to get you to the point where you’re “living your best life.” All the ads and hashtags say things like “Depression hurts,” “Feeling Alone,” and “Holding On,” but they rarely explain the solution to how living with this disease affects you and how to live an abundant life.

I can help you reduce your feelings of depression. Creating a partnership and serving as a guide, we will walk side-by-side and work together to get you moving again in your life. You are no longer alone, even though you probably do not feel like it. You need to get back into balance, and I can help you with that. We will work to identify the type of life you desire, as well as the source of your pain. Then, we will develop a plan that starts with a mindset shift and implement small goals and big steps for you to get there.
