Trauma

You keep reliving that same event. Without warning, something triggers that traumatic experience, and it’s like reliving it again and again. Your life is anything but normal. Sleepless nights, nightmares, outbursts of anger and frustration, feelings of guilt, unable to cope, and feeling stressed are your new normal since the event or events. Negative response to trauma is natural. Reacting negatively to a traumatic event is a natural response. After that event, it is common for a person to have nightmares, be on edge, or even have flashbacks of the event. The event may have interfered with your life for a while. In many cases, however, people tend to recover from the event, and reactions to that event eventually subside. When is response to trauma not natural? The problem with trauma arises when those feelings don’t subside but persist long after you experience the event. This type of response to trauma has many symptoms. You don’t feel like your usual self and continue to feel numb and empty on a regular basis. Something triggers a response, and there you are reliving the event. You just can’t seem to shake it. You continue to have physical stress symptoms, deliberately try to avoid anything that reminds you of the traumatic experience, have no one with whom you can share your feelings, and find that relationships with family and friends are suffering. This is when the trauma becomes intertwined with PTSD, which is a condition that causes a person not to recover from the trauma. Trauma has many causes. Individuals who grow up in an unsafe environment learn to  stay on high alert and see and experience events that can have a lasting impact on them. Sexual assault, accidents, and other traumatic and life-threating events can result in a person having PTSD, or CPSTD. Healing from PTSD and the effects of persistent trauma requires more than time. It requires counseling and therapy. You don’t have to go it alone. PTSD impacts a person’s mental and physical well-being, and healing and recovery from traumatic events causing PTSD are not easy. The process of healing involves addressing the issue at the core and making a mind-body connection in order to restore balance in your life. If you’re experiencing the effects from trauma and show some of the symptoms previously described, we can help you learn to redirect your negative responses to a more positive response. Let me help you overcome PTSD and the triggers that cause you to continually relive that traumatic experience. ADHD and Autism spectrum Living with ADHD or autism can present unique challenges, including difficulties with focus, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and social communication. Our therapy services are designed to support individuals with ADHD and autism by using proven, effective approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). CBT helps clients recognize and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, improve emotional regulation, and develop practical coping strategies tailored to their needs. NLP enhances self-awareness, communication skills, and mindset shifts, making it easier to overcome barriers, reduce anxiety, and build confidence. Together, these therapies support personal growth, reduce stress, and improve overall quality of life. We provide a safe, inclusive environment where neurodivergent individuals feel respected and empowered. Whether you or your loved one struggles with executive functioning, social anxiety, impulsivity, or emotional overwhelm, our goal is to help you build tools that foster resilience and success. Therapy sessions are tailored to your unique strengths and challenges, with practical skills you can apply in everyday life. Start your journey toward improved focus, emotional balance, and well-being today.

Anxiety and
Depression

Persistent anxiety can interfere with your life. Having occasional anxiety is part of life. It is generally caused by some type of stress For a member of the LGBT+ community, it may be caused by not feeling accepted for who you are, or even worse feelings of a lack of safety in some or all spheres of life.  If you are somewhere on the neurodivergent spectrum, anxiety can be exacerbated by confusion at reading social cues, over stimulation, and sensory integration issues. Some anxiety is normal; however, it can be problematic when it becomes persistent and overwhelming. When anxiety begins to impact your life in negative ways, it is time to seek professional help. Therapy provides an avenue for overcoming anxiety. Through therapy, you learn ways to reduce anxiety and gain control over unhealthy thoughts, as well as develop coping strategies for more effective sensory integration. Meditation and mindfulness skills help you during those times when you are feeling anxious. Sometimes anxiety can be caused by traumatic events that cause emotional wounds. Therapy helps you explore those events and heal from the stress that causes you to be anxious. It is about setting smart goals for living in your truth and actualizing the life you want. It is about growing into the person you have always wanted to be.

LGBTQ+

I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families feel empowered and supported in their authentic identities. I also specialize in working with the loved ones and family members of LGBTQIA+ individuals, offering a safe and affirming space where healing conversations can take place. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients explore how thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors impact their relationships and emotional well-being. Whether you're navigating a family member’s coming out, exploring your own identity, or facing challenges around gender transition, I work to reduce conflict, foster understanding, and challenge internalized homophobia or transphobia. Together, we can build healthier communication, shift unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop meaningful strategies for connection and support. Competent Health Care is something that I take very seriously, and I work each and every day to make a positive impact.
