About Me

My path to becoming a therapist…

You might say it started in childhood. I grew up in a complex family structure, my parents were divorced, and gender identity was not something that was really discussed. I knew at an early age that I was different, but I didn’t yet have the language to

understand what that meant. I did great in school, but I was constantly in trouble for not paying attention, and for forgetting tasks, sound familiar?  ADHD was not yet a widely understood disorder, and it wasn’t until my mid twenties that I received a diagnosis, which turned my life around. Working with a therapist allowed me to develop the coping skills and organizational strategies that led to my enrolling in and graduating from college with a degree in counseling.

I have a particular passion for working with the LGBT+ community of which I am a queer member. I have also been a committed partner in a poly relationship for the past 35 years, which greatly informs my ability to help others to navigate the complex and uncertain lived experience of being a part of a marginalized community.

Issues resulting from trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, and relationships are prevalent among the LGBT+community. If not addressed, these issues can follow you throughout the lifespan. No matter what stage of life you are in, addressing these issues will help you understand that the past doesn’t have to determine your future. That’s why it’s so important for me to help you with these issues. I want to help you heal, transition into your most authentic self  (whatever phase of life you’re in), and enjoy successful relationships in a well-balanced life.

I’ve worked the entertainment industry, the interior design industry, outpatient clinics, and private practice, and treated adults of all ages individuals, and couples. My favorite modality is individual therapy, which sometimes involves working with family members to support them.

I’ve also raised two daughters and a large number of young adults call me mama, so I understand the challenges of being a teenager, parenting, and finding time for myself!

I believe in the power of therapy from personal experience.

I have engaged in my own therapy to deepen personal awareness and self-growth.

Therapy gave me more compassion for myself. It taught me that I am enough – that I can accept myself fully for who I am.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I love to spend time with family and friends, camping, reading, creating art, and being by the water.

I am also an animal lover. I have two Goldendoodles, named Nathaniel Giovanni, and Alice Ember Crow. They will sometimes decide to interact with my sessions via barking, but this is rare, and always a happy sound.

If you are ready to experience more authenticity,  happiness and joy in your life, learn strategies for managing your emotions, and enjoy your relationships more, therapy with me can lead you to the relief you are after. It would be my privilege to work with you to reach your goals.
